Friday, May 23rd

It has been a while since I have updated this, so bear with me.

We've been doing great! The heat is getting worse, I believe we are now in the 100's.

Our PT area is awesome! It keeps getting better the longer we are here. Our area now consists of a Pull-Up Bar X 2, a Ring station, Tire Jumps, a big tire for flips, a GHD, and a bar for Sumo Deadlift High Pulls. Other Marines in the Camp have started using the area as well.

I made this video of with Ryan, Bauer and myself.

Friday, Mar, 7

A short hiatus, and were back. A busy week coupled with a bit of laziness has kept me from updating the photos and blog.

We've been trying to follow the elections as much as we can. We don't have American T.V. here so much of our info is searched on Drudge, Digg, Foxnews, or CNN. It's going to be an interesting year...

In between missions and working out, we have found some interesting ways of keeping busy. A few Marines play Cribbage, while several others watch DVD's or listen to their MP3 players. The big game on the block has been our Chess matches. We have been keeping track of our games, much like our workouts. As the Crossfit mantra goes, "Men will die for points". So far Huse is the only undefeated player with a whopping 3-0 record, and Mathet takes the lowest of 0-4. Lt Rac and myself have racked up more than 20 games each. But I digress...

We have been hitting the workouts hard. We have added some strength components into the mix. During the past couple of weeks we have done Shoulder Press, Push Press, Push Jerk using the 5X5, 3X3, 1X1 scheme and Squats using 3X5, 3X3, 3X1.

Yesterday's workout wasn't too bad. I should have added more reps.

5 Rounds for Time
5 TireJumps (unknown height, maybe 32inches)
10 Ring Pushups
100M Sprint

Turned out to be a 5-7 minute workout.

Saturdays workout was another gift was Coach Jeff Martin at Crossfit Brand X.

FUJM...

This one looked easy enough on paper.

20 Burpees => 1 Pull-Ups
19 Burpees => 2 Pull-Ups
...
1 Burpees => 20 Pull-Ups

We had times averaging from 38 minutes to just over an hour. A great effort by all!

Prior to this workout, Lt Rac and I opted to get some sprint work in. We found a small hill with a 70-80% incline. We did
5 Rounds with 1 minute rest between each round
10 PushUps
5 Tuck Jumps
50M Hill Sprint

Ok, we had to miss a couple of days because of the high tempo. A few of the Marines opted to use these days to hit the gym or get some LSD running in.

I have requested the help from the great folks at Brand X Martial Arts for Crossfit workouts. I received some killer workouts.

Friday's workout was courtesy of Coach Jeff Martin:

7 Rounds for Time
10 Bastards (Burpee w/ a Tuck Jump)
200M Sprint
Rest 2:00 between each round.

The original workout was modded slightly.
They had 1:40 to finish each round, or else get another round added.

Excellent work.

I opted for another workout.

3 Rounds for Time:
3 MuscleUps
20 Box Jumps (30in)
25 DoubleUnders

I completed this workout in about 9 minutes. I was practicing muscle-ups prior to the workout as part of my warmup, which caused me to burn out on my last round of muscleups.

Due to yesterdays high tempo, I am not sure if the word got out about the workout. That's ok. Today we are performing

"Grace"
30 Clean and Jerks for time

Rx'd weight 135lbs. Use 95lbs if you are new to this.

These are Power Cleans.

Rest Day!

We are taking today as a rest day. So far it has been a good week. For the past couple of days it has been cold, windy, and rainy. There is a small gym located a hundred yards away from our living space. The gym provides a few dumbbells, a squat rack, a few rubber coated weights (which may come in handy later), and a slew hammer strength style machines. They have also limited the hours, and amount of Marines allowed inside.

We will have to make much our own equipment. We currently have a couple of dumbbells, a barbell, and a pull-up bar. We have also acquired a tire. I've brought my rings and jump ropes as well. Sandbags are also in abundance. It may take awhile, but our little junkyard gym will get moving soon.

To friends and family, please feel free to comment on the blog, the pictures, or anywhere else on the site. There are still areas of the site that are under construction, but that will change soon as well. I will try to keep this updated as much as possible with pictures and workouts.

Also, nothing motivates me more than reading something like this:
Duncan @ Crossfit Kids

Thanks Duncan, the Marines here agree, You Rock!

Stay Frosty!
